Volunteering with The London Irish Centre
The London Irish Centre (L.I.C.) has had a strong volunteering connection since its creation by volunteers in 1955. Today, nearly 60 years on, volunteers continue to play a vital role in the organisation, providing support in every aspect of our work. We currently have a fantastic team of over 80 volunteers but we are always in need of more.
Why volunteer with us?
People volunteer for a variety of reasons: to give something back to the community, to challenge themselves, to meet new people, enhance their CV or maintain a link with their heritage. Whatever your reason is, we would love to hear from you.
By volunteering with LIC, you would be joining a friendly but professional team dedicated to supporting the Irish Community in London. Volunteering with us is a truly rewarding experience and a chance to make a genuine difference.
As a volunteer you will receive:

Who can volunteer?
We welcome applications from all sections of the community. For many roles experience is not necessary. We ask that volunteers;
- be reliable and committed
- have good communication skills
- be enthusiastic and willing to help
- be able to take direction
What can I do?
Volunteers help out across the organisation from our culture and welfare departments. We have over 20 different volunteer roles
Our current vacancies
- Lunch Club Assistants
Volunteers are needed to help welcome service users, serve food, clear
tables and maintain a tidy work area within our lunch club sessions at our
centre in Camden at our new lunch club session starting soon on Tuesdays a
regular commitment of 11.30-3pm is needed.
- Kitchen Porter
We run a Lunch Club three times a week for people over 55. The Lunch club’s friendly atmosphere helps older people to socialise in a secure and safe environment. We serve a nutritiously balanced meal which helps our members keep healthy. For some, this is the only hot meal that they get. Kitchen porter will play an important role to assist our cook to prepare high quality meals and maintain a clean and tidy kitchen area. Duties include: Assisting the cook with food preparation, helping to keep kitchen area clean and tidy and washing dishes and pans.
- Missing Persons Service Coordinator
The London Irish Centre is the only Irish organisation in Britain that operates a missing person’s service. The service has been in operation for over 25 years and continues to work closely with other organisations throughout Britain. We endeavour to locate close relatives where reconciliation and a restoration of relationships are the common objective for all involved. As Missing Persons service Coordinator, you would be responsible for the smooth running of this service by carrying out the duties outlined below. You would receive full support from the Welfare Coordinator and Volunteer Organiser wherever necessary. Duties include: Responding promptly to all enquiries regarding missing persons, sending missing persons enquiries to relevant organisations, fling all enquiries and correspondence appropriately, updating clients on any developments related to their enquiry, recording all enquiries and outcomes on database, maintaining confidentiality and being sensitive at all times to the needs of clients.
- Wednesday Morning Receptionist
The office area of the London Irish Centre is constantly busy. As a Receptionist, you would help to ensure the smooth running of the centre by supporting the Administrator with duties as outlined below. There is scope to expand these duties once a volunteer is established in a role. Duties include: Welcoming clients, managing the switchboard, keeping records of client attendance and assisting the Administrator with other duties as needed.
