Please join our ‘Friends Scheme’, and help us to support those Irish that need it most. From just 16per day you can support the most vulnerable members of our Irish community in London.
Patrick Kielty promotes our work:
The London Irish Centre is dedicated to achieving the key dignities of adequate housing and income, access to appropriate health services and to social opportunities for older Irish people. At a time when public funds are under pressure, we need your help more than ever.
The Irish who came to London in the decades after the War didn’t enjoy the benefits of third level, or even second level education. They brought their ability and willingness to work – often in brutal and dangerous conditions. They sent billions of pounds home in emigrant remittances – vital to the Irish economy and to the sustenance of families and communities at the time.
These same people are now in old age. Many live in poverty, isolation and loneliness, having lost links with family and friends at home. They suffer disproportionately poor levels of health, being the only immigrant community to suffer deterioration in health, following emigration.
‘In these tough economic times The London Irish Centre carries out crucial work in supporting the most vulnerable members of the city’s Irish community. I am proud to endorse the charity’s work through their new Friends Scheme, and would encourage others to do the same. Your support will make a real difference to the lives of those in need, and what better way to do that than through Irish community organisations’. Eddie Jordan
Please help us by becoming a friend of the London Irish Centre, and committing a regular amount to support our work. Your support will allow us to plan for the future, and continue to deliver crucial welfare services to those in need.
As an added bonus, as a friend, you automatically join our ‘Friends Club’, which entitles you to special offers and discounts on Irish cultural events here, and at partner venues throughout London. It’s our way of saying ‘Go raibh míle maith agat’.
We are also very lucky to have the support of a number of Irish celebrities that have signed up as ‘Honorary Friends’, in support of the charity’s work. We will announce a new Honorary Friend every month from September 2010.
