Summer Mix of new plays
Following the success of last years “six of the Best” of new Irish plays at the London Irish Centre, and the resounding success of Peter Hammond’s Trials of Frankie Flynn over the last two weeks, this years Summer Mix of new plays continues at the London Irish Centre, Camden Square NW1 9XB (Tue-Thu only/admission £5).
3-12 August: ‘Donegal Wake’ by Ria Higgins directed by Owen Nolan: In a ramshackle house off the west coat of Ireland a sudden death brings a family together for the first time in years. Expect plenty of tears and tantrums and lashings of alcohol!
17-26 August: ‘Belfast Girl’ by John Dunne directed by Mary Tynan: Annie is a working class protestant who grew up during the troubles. An unexpected visit from a sweetheart who she hasn?t seen since her teens, brings matters to a head in an explosive manner.
EXTRA…EXTRA…EXTRA…
21-30 September. Cromwell in Ireland by Tom O’Brien directed by Owen Nolan: A controversial play about Cromwell’s unwelcome visit to Ireland and the lasting impact he left on the country. Mixed with songs, ancient and modern, the play explores some of the facts and themes not generally known about the man who toured Ireland with such devastating effect.
6 Oct-15 December. London Irish Playwrights return with brand new plays written over a ten-week period. The group meet every Wednesday at the centre from 7pm and include aspiring playwrights as well as professional actors who breath life into newly born scripts! The sessions will also include a series of full rehearsed readings of new work.
