The London Irish Centre is the only Irish organisation in Britain that operates a missing person’s service. The service has been in operation for over twenty five years and continues to work closely with other organisations throughout Britain.
We endeavour to locate close relatives where reconciliation and a restoration of relationships are the common objective for all involved.
HOW WE DO IT
Step 1: The first step is to fill in our basic form for details of the missing person. We only need a modest amount of information to commence an enquiry:
* Date of birth
* Last known contact
* Physical description
* Whether police has been notified
Step 2: We will then commence a trace exercise using established methods. We will generally use statutory services such as the Office of National Statistics.
Step 3: If the missing person is traced, we will send an open letter to them indicating that someone is seeking them and that The Centre is willing to be a point of contact. The letter is always sent via a confidential third party so that the privacy of the missing person is protected.
Step 4: If the missing person responds, contact can be pursued with their consent. It is always up to the person being sought to respond or not. This is their absolute prerogative and must be respected at all times.
POINTS TO NOTE
Confidentiality: This is paramount in the service. The privacy of all concerned is respected.
Volunteers: The work of the service is done by committed volunteers.
Cases that cannot be undertaken: It is not possible for us to pursue certain enquiries. An example would be an enquiry that has a commercial purpose only. Another would be an enquiry that involves adoption as this is a specialist undertaking.
