Since 1955 the London Irish Centre has been providing welfare advice, accommodation, training and learning facilities, routes into employment, a “home away from home” and a range of cultural experiences for successive generations of Irish people.
The mission of the Centre’s Centre Community Welfare Service is to respond to the unmet needs among the Irish people for culturally sensitive welfare services, particularly those of advice, support, healthy living and training.
Welfare Advice Drop-in Service
The Welfare Advice Service is a drop-in service which provides free, independent and confidential advice on Housing and Welfare Benefits.
The service currently holds the Community Legal Service’s Quality Mark for General Help with Casework in: Housing and Benefits. This is an award that ensures good standards of advice are being achieved and maintained.
Elders Outreach
We operate Outreach services for older Irish people in North London, with dedicated case-workers for Kilburn, Camden and Islington.
Through focused, proactive case-work we aim to achieve the key dignities of life for older Irish people in London:
- Adequate housing
- Adequate income
- Access to healthcare
- Access to social opportunities
Day Centre
In November 2008 the London Irish Centre completed a refurbishment of the Day Centre. The Day Centre is a three room modern facility which hosts a range of top quality classes, groups and activities.
We serve tasty, homemade meals on Mon/Wed/Fri from 12:30. It is a warm, informal and friendly atmosphere with lots of activities such as quizzes, bingo, knitting, and art. We also have various outings and day trips.
Please see the Day Centre page for more information.
