The first London Irish Comedy Festival launches this October and features a stellar line-up of top class and emerging Irish and London Irish comedians and musical comedy acts, including Andrew Maxwell, Abandoman, Neil Delamere, Aisling Bea, The Nualas & Colm O’ Regan’s ‘Ireland’s Got Mammies’. Friday 12 October; winners of the Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, The Musical Comedy Awards and Best Comedy Newcomer at the Adelaide Fringe Festival, Abandoman headline. They create hilarious musical sketches at lightning speed live in front of their audience. No two gigs are ever the same. Also headlining is Neil Delamere, one of the top acts working in the Irish comedy scene
today, best known to audiences for his regular appearances on RTE’s The Panel and BBC’s The Blame Game. Abandoman and Neil are supported by Fred Cooke who has supported Ardal O’ Hanlon and played alongside Tommy Tiernan, Dara O Brian, Ross Noble & Jason Byrne. MC on the night is Willie White who got his start in comedy in 2005 on Des Bishop’s Irish TV programme ‘Joy in the Hood’.
Irish based comedienne Sharyn Hayden will host a Musical Comedy Showcase for UK and Irish based musical comedy acts. One act on the night will be selected for a place in quarter finals of the UK Musical Comedy Awards.
Saturday 13 October; Critically acclaimed comedian and winner of the Time Out Live Award for Best Stand-up, the Loaded Magazine Award for Best Stand-up and the Chortle Award for Best Contribution To The Live Comedy Circuit, Andrew Maxwell, headlines, a must see for any comedy fan. Maxwell is supported by Aisling Bea who recently won the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny? Award at 2012 Edinburgh Festival. Also supporting is John Lynn, who having built a solid reputation in Ireland is now represented by the Comedy Store in the UK . MC on the night is Eric Lalor who was crowned Irish stand-up of the Year 2011 by the readers of entertainment.ie.
Best Newcomer nominee at the 2011 Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards, Cariad Lloyd will host a free Improvised Comedy Workshop for experienced UK and Ireland based comedians which will culminate in an Improv Comedy Night. For details about how to apply please click here!
Sunday 14 October; Colm O’ Regan will perform a matinee performance of ‘Ireland’s Got Mammies’. His Twitter sensation @irishmammies, has amassed nearly 50,000 followers in just six months including famous authors like Marian Keyes and actress Minnie Driver. Warning – this show may be best accompanied with tea and a bun.
After a ten year hiatus The Nualas will perform their first show in the UK in eleven years, where they last played at the Royal Albert Hall. In a world where pop stars think nothing of singing in their underwear, The Nualas buck the trend by sporting proper, yet unbelievably glamorous, and shiny, stage attire.
