“In a time when the world was illuminated by the softer light of the gas lamp and the film industry was still in its flickering infancy – James Joyce was busy scrutinising his surroundings, collecting images and constructing a pathway with words – which was to alter the course of writing and thinking about writing.” Nora Connolly

Bloomsday Celebrations have very much become an annual feature at The London Irish Centre, and 2012 is shaping up to be as colourful, vibrant and entertaining as always.

Join us for readings (in period costume) from Ulysses & more, with Nora Connolly, Oengus MacNamara & Teresa Jennings. Come in costume if you can!

The readings are lively, informative and witty and throw light and life onto James Joyce’s major themes – the relationship with his partner Nora Barnacle and with the city of Dublin.

‘The Bloomsday Cabaret’ explores the delights and dynamics of ‘The Day That Was In It’ – in June 1904 – when he encountered Nora Barnacle from Galway – and subsequently wrote Ulysses – which has been described as the longest love letter in the universe.

As it’s Bloomsday, you are of course welcome to perform your own contribution in the second half of the show!
